Let’s start this review with the most important factor when it comes to the success of Under 510’s clothes :
The Fit
These jeans come in standard waist sizes ranging from 28” - 36” but most importantly they have inseam lengths starting from 26” which is an incredible convenience for those of us who are tired of other brands’ 30” inseams being the shortest available. WAHOO! You no longer have to go to the tailor and pay extra to get your jeans hemmed!
Additionally, with typical slim-fitting jeans patterns, hemming your jeans will create a wider leg opening since the leg of the jeans tapers from the knee-down. However, these jeans are already patterns to fit shorter guys perfectly straight out of the box. I need a 29” inseam and Under 510 carries that length in stock whereas pretty much every other brand out there doesn’t.
Styling

Pay attention here because the website states that these are a “slim fit through the thigh with a modest taper through the leg opening” - but in my opinion these are undoubtedly a skinny jean. On my average to slightly athletic build, they are snug on the thigh with a modern skinny leg. I think the “modest taper” is an understatement.
Yet, I actually really like the overall fit and look of the Bruce jean. Whereas I wear casual jeans with a straighter leg (because I’m always wearing boots!) in business casual settings, I want a refined look which means a skinnier leg especially to show off my low profile dress shoes, loafers, or casual sneakers. Trust me, even if you’re typically opposed to skinnier fits, you’ll love the way these look with more office-friendly outfits! And I highly recommend you try replacing your current straight fit pants with those that look more like these if that’s the case!
Fabric/Construction
Under 510 has ditched the metal rivets ,which are more casual, and replaced them with sleek buttons for a more streamlined look
The 13-ounce fabric is a perfect weight for year round wear and has traditional, slubby denim texture. I’d describe it as a perfect fabric for guys looking to integrate jeans into their business-casual attire; They have the refined, slim look of a chino with the casual feel of a more rugged jean, with the comfort and freedom of an athleisure sweatpant. They’ve also ingeniously ditched the metal rivets which give these a subtle visual upgrade in formality.
A look at the fabric composition of the Bruce jean
These are not the hard wearing, but often uncomfortable rigid jeans you may currently associate with traditional denim - and that’s a good thing here! They have 7% stretch which results in significant flexibility and shape retention as opposed to 100% cotton which will stretch out and sag in the knees and waist. You can assume they will shrink a bit with washes but I’d still recommend going true to size. I have yet to wash them, but this is because I don’t believe in washing your jeans too often, especially if you’d like to preserve the original color and fit of the jeans as long as possible.
Overall they’re clearly catering these jeans to the customer with a business casual wardrobe and I think these are on the mark in terms of the fabric and the fit. I can see myself running to catch the LIRR in Penn Station with ease while still looking sharp!
Value
Genuine YKK zippers are a hallmark of above average quality for a jean
Especially compared to the popular $130 LuluLemon ABC pants that are becoming increasingly popular in business casual settings, the Bruce Jeans are solid value. For $50 (as they are currently on sale!), they have the fabric, details, and convenience that could easily cost a lot more.
Just think how you’ve probably spent $20-$30 getting pants hemmed and tapered which would mean you’d have to spend $20-$30 on jeans to stay on the same budget. That means you’d have to buy H&M’s poor quality to get jeans that fit at the same price!

These jeans are substantial, but extremely comfortable, rugged, but also refined enough to wear to the office or on a date. But most of all, these are an incredibly convenient offering due to the inseam options. With free shipping and free returns, there is no risk so I’d totally recommend giving them a go!
