A lot of guys have been asking me where to buy an inexpensive, but quality, cashmere sweater. Cashmere is a tough fabric to find at a good price because you don’t want to end up with some low quality sweater that pulls and pills with the first few wears (J.Crew’s Destination Cashmere for example), but I haven’t had the opportunity to shell out $100+ on Everlane’s cashmere sweaters which have been rumored to be worth the money.

I found myself in the endless treasure chest that is Saks OFF 5th when they were having their [BS, all year round] end-of-season clearance sale. As I was sifting through the racks of clothing, which is unfortunately never sorted by size, I immediately ceased my rigorous search when my hand felt something suspiciously soft. A beautiful navy cashmere crewneck sweater marked $40! I had seen them before but for closer to the $100 price point, which is not a good deal considering I don’t expect much from their in-house line of clothing. There was a tag attached claiming they’re using high quality two-ply yarn and even provide a cute yarn sample baggy. The real test though will be in how it performs over time.

I tried it on and was actually shocked at how well it fit- slim fitting, high armholes, and a nicely proportioned collar width. I’ve worn it five times, and can happily report its actually help up superbly well. No piling whatsoever, and lots of compliments! Plus, the ladies LOVE to touch cashmere on a man! Its not the densest, highest thread count sweater by any stretch, but I’m not really expecting that for $40

Thus, I can wholeheartedly recommend Saks OFF 5th’s cashmere sweaters, which they also offer in V-necks. Saks OFF 5th, plays a lot of games with sales so try to get them around holiday time when they offer additional discount codes.
